Here is my in my mailbox this is two weeks worth of books. It is hosted by kristen.



Fire: Really enjoyed Graceling, so wanting to start this one pretty soon.

Mockingjay: I got this because I wanted to see how the series ended, I didn't really enjoy Hunger Games but loved Catching Fire. We'll see if I like this.

Storm and Sea Glass: This is a new series, it is by the same author that wrote the Posion series, I haven't read either but a couple of people mentioned that this was the better series.

Candor: The story seems really interesting, from what I have read it seems like it is going to be a fantastic story.

Grave Secret: I don't particulary find the Sookie Stackhouse novels to be any good, however from reading this I enjoyed it alot more than I thought I would. I didn't realise it was in a series though, but I think it's better for this reason. (review to come)

The Dead Girls Dance: This is a Morganville Vampire books, it's the second. I have the first on my ereader though I am thinking about getting them all in paperback.

The Wish House: Alot of people recommended this to me. The story seems quite good, plus I love stories that are set in the past.

The Eternal Ones: This sounds amazing! Can't wait to read it, the only thing thats stopping me at the moment is the fact that it is in a series. The story doesn't seem the kind that can go on more than one book.

Overall I've had a great two weeks worth of books! I'm happy with all the books that have came my way.

MIA

Sorry I've been a little M.I.A over the past couple of weeks, alot came up at work and I haven't been reading as much as I would like to of, Graceling is still being read and I love the way the story is unfolding in it, I'll finish that as soon as I can and will post a review very soon. What do people think of the header? Does it need changing? Or is it fine the way it is?

However I did get a copy of Mockingjay, not a huge fan of the series. Didn't really like the Hunger Games however loved Catching Fire. Hope Mockingjay rounds the series off nicely. I've been trying to keep away from spoilers, though I have seen one or two saying the ending wasn't as good as they thought. Hmmm I'd like to make my own decsion. Mockingjay will have to wait until I'm done with my library books, wow the library has a load of great books in at the moment.

Currently reading Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris, the fourth book in the Harper Connelly seires. I didn't however realise that it was in a series, but saying that I feel better that I haven't read the others, plus the way the plot and writing the book could easily be a stand alone novel. Harper is a great lead, however I don't really like her personalilty. I had the same problem with the Southern Vampire Mystries series she also writes aswell, I didn't like Sookie at all in the first book but by the third I loved her. I think the same might happen if I continue to read the other books in this series.

Perfect Chemistry

This book had mixed chapters, the kind where you get two points of view. I enjoyed this book so much more because of this, if it was just from Brittney's point of view for example I don't think I would of rated the book at all. I loved the way you could see one event happen from two different people persectives and the different reactions they had to these events.

The characters made me laugh so much as well, the scene with Paco in the tolilet at the wedding had me in stitches, I think that is another aspect that makes this book work. The supporting cast are amazing. Even Brittney's mom is funny. You really get to see a different side to people who you would normally judge in real life, it shows that most people do have problems but are not open about them and put on a show to help cope.

Brittney is a funny character to judge, she has so much going on, she thinks that she has to be perfect because her sister is not. Alex is part of gang because it is the only way he can protect his family from the gangs around the area. People judge Brittney because she has the so called perfect life and judge Alex because they feel he likes being part of a gang.

This story highlights the issues I have talked about and as you learn about the characters you start to get an understanding about them, they also learn about eachother the same way you find out about them. They discover eachother, but also discover themselves at the same time. What turns out as a bet can lead to true love!

I would highly recommend this book, I loved it and cannot wait to read Rules of Attraction. Which I think has a January 2011 release date in the UK. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on a copy before that though. Rules of Attraction follows on from Perfect Chemistry and explores the life of Carlos, Alex's younger brother.

I got a few books this week. Some that I am sooo happy to finially get round to owning!

Wicked Lovely: You may of seen from my last couple of updates that I own the rest of this series and only needed this for my collection, I have read the book and thought it was fantastic!

Vampire Academy Series: I've wanted this series for a while now, and can't wait to get stuck into it.

Mistress of Rome: I basically got this because of the wonderful cover. It was love at first sight! After reading what the book is about I think that I will enjoy it, it has everything I like about a book rolled into one.

Nanny Returns: This is a tour book that I am looking forward to reading, it seems funny from what I can gather.

Sorry this is a day late, I was really busy yesterday and didn't have time to update.

Beastly: I've wanted to read this for a long time, and with it not being released in the UK found it hard to come across. I was so happy when I finially saw it in WH Smiths, I grabbed it straight away!

Linger: I got this to read because although I have Shiver and never read it I wanted to wait and read them both together. So I'm looking forward to reading both in the up coming weeks.

To Kill a Mockingbird: I never read this at school, like so many have so I decided to pick this up and see what I thought.

Paper Towns: Everyone has been telling me to read some of John Greens books so I finially decided to get Paper Towns. If anyone has any recommendations on other John Green books to read please let me know.

Radiant Shadows: The next in the Wicked Lovely series. This series is SO good, I recommend it to everyone.

In my mailbox is a wekkly mem hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren. I have decided that I am going to be taking part in it, though some weeks there won't be one. Anyway lets get on with it! :)

Ink Exchange: Really looking forward to reading this, Wicked Lovely is one of my favourite books and I hope the series keeps up with this standard.

Hex Hall: I was looking for a fun read and Hex Hall seems like a perfect book for this.

Sister's Red: Another book I am looking forward to reading, loving the werewolves stories that are coming out at the minute.

Stolen: This seems like the kind of book I will be very interested in, it will also be interesting to see the characters develop with the moving settings.

Forget You by Jennifer Echols

Feeling like her life is about to become a complete mess, Zoey fights back the only way she knows how, using her famous attention to detail to make sure she’s the perfect daughter, the perfect student, and the perfect girlfriend to ultra-popular football player Brandon. But then Zoey is in a car crash, and the next day there’s one thing she can’t remember at all—the entire night before. Did she go parking with Brandon, like she planned? And if so, why does it seem like Brandon is avoiding her? And why is Doug—of all people— suddenly acting as if something significant happened between the two of them? Zoey dimly remembers Doug pulling her from the wreck, but he keeps referring to what happened that night as if it was more, and it terrifies Zoey to admit how much is a blank to her. Controlled, meticulous Zoey is quickly losing her grip on the all-important details of her life—a life that seems strangely empty of Brandon, and strangely full of Doug.

This was the first time I have read anything by Jennifer Echols but I am glad I started with a book that will be a classic in years to come. I hope that the book recieves all the attention it deserve which is a lot. Since reading the book I have gone out and ordered Going to Far and Endless Summer and will have to check out her other books.

The characters are first class, the devolp so much in the timeframe of the book, you learn that although Zoey is attracted to Doug she does still have feelings for Brandon and at times is blinded by love. Doug is the hunky but slightly dark love interest, where Brandon is the player who wants every girl to himself. Add a couple of quirky twins and you have the perfect cast.

My opinions on the characters changed as I went on I didn't like Doug to start with but as the book pregressed I began to fall for him, Zoey I felt sorry for in the beginning but as the story went on I began to feel annoyed with her, she had Doug waiting for her practically all her life and never really noticed him but I was really happy for her at the end of the book. I think that is a great mix for a book.

The story for me is a classic love story with a twist, the setting couldn't of been more perfect, lovely beaches and almost perfect weather. However there was a point in the novel where I felt Zoey had became a total different person, it happens about three quarters of the way through but I think it could have been handled in a totally different way. I don't want to spoil the part so I won't say what happens but I will say you will know when you come to it.

I didn't want this book to end, I think that I could have finished it sooner but I wanted it to last longer! Overall a great book, perfectly written, beautiful characters and an absolute pleasure to read. I would recommend it to everyone.

Page 61. Forget You by Jennifer Echols.

I will admit now that when the story started I didn't really like Aubrey's character much, this didn't change as the book went on. I did however put myself in te position of the character. It was the only way I coped getting through the book, however by doing this I became upset at numerous points throughout the book.

The story was first class, it had mass moments of sorrow and lose but also showed love and happiness could be found in every place. Aybrey's mom runs away and leaves Aubrey to fend for herself, personally for me this is where the book failed, I didn't like the way Aubrey coped with this fact. She pretty much seemed fine about it, however if that was me I would be panicing! Until her grandmother comes to visit you don't really find out much about why the event has happened, you later find out that Aubrey's dad and sister died, it also seems to me that her mother felt the blame, she had been the one driving. From the moment of finding this out I became more interested in the book.

Aubrey learns to cope with the new situations she is put in, and also finds happiness and love.

I LOVED this book, the characters (once you get to know them), the story and the writing style cannot be flattered. I would highly recommend this and in the future will probably pick the book up again, just to see if my opinions have changed.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood. I never asked to be the son of a Greek God. I was just a normal kid, going to school, playing basketball, skateboarding. The usual. Until I accidentally vaporized my maths teacher. That's when things started really going wrong. Now I spend my time fighting with swords, battling monsters with my friends, and generally trying to stay alive. This is the one where Zeus, God of the Sky, thinks I've stolen his lightning bolt - and making Zeus angry is a very bad idea. Can Percy find the lightning bolt before a fully-fledged war of the Gods erupts?

This story was so good, I found that I could not put the book down, I was so engrosed by the plot. The characters were a little unbelieveable, would Percy really get over his moms death so soon? He's 11, he needs to grieve yet he seems to get over it in a couple of pages.

Percy is a half-blood and after being kicked out of just about every school he's ever been to he arrives at Camp Half Blood. I would like to mention that he doesn't know that he is a half blood, though his mom does and she is the one that takes him to Camp Half Blood, it is meant to be a summer camp. Once he arrives he meets his Latin teacher, who is actually called Chiron, Annebeth and his friend from school Grover who is actually a kind of protector for half bloods.

Chiron offers Percy a quest, the quest however is a dangerous quest in the fact that Zeus thinks that Percy has stolen his lightning blot, of course Percy hasn't and it is up to him to find the Bolt. It appears the Hades has the blot and is wanting a full scale war to erupt so he can regain more power. Posiden also appears to claim Percy as his son (I should proably mention that a God has to claim you as their son or daughter).

So the adventure begins, the characters really add something to the book, you have Annebeth who although she doesn't get on with Percy at the start becomes great friends with him as the quest unfolds, I feel that in later books Percy and Annebeth will get to know eachother more, well I hope they do.

The story kept you going and wanting to find out what happens, it willed you to keep reading. There are plenty of twists and turns in the book to make it an entertaining read. I want to see the film now! Although I have heard they change a lot from the book for the film. I think I will do a post detailing the changes.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone that is interested in the Greek Gods and mythology.

Marked by PC and Kristin Cast

When sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird gets Marked as a fledgling vampire she must join the House of Night school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change. But Zoe is no ordinary fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the Goddess Nyx and discovers her amazing new power to conjure the elements: earth, air, fire, water and spirit. When Zoey discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look within herself to embrace her destiny - with a little help from her new vampire friends.

This is a hard book to review, well for me anyway. I loved the story and given the right amount of time I could grow to love the characters aswell, however the lack of writing ability the athours have shown has really wound me up. When I read I want to enjoy the story as much as possible and while I did, some of the language the characters used was just not right for people there ages. An example of this would be Zooey, who calls another pupil at the school 'a pooie head', not trying to sound nasty but a 16 year would never say something like that.

Basically the story goes that vampires are known about, you become a vampire by getting Marked, Zooey gets marked and is sent to the House of Night. Once there she meets Stevie Rae (my favourite character), Damien and the twins (Shanuee and Erin) who actually aren't twins. There is also her mentor Neferet, Eric and Heath love interests and Aphrodite her rival? During her stay there she becomes a member of the Daughters of Darkness and soon realises that the group is overrun with Aphrodite and her friends that aren't willing to let other members join and are in the group for their own gains. This leads to Zooey finding out more about herself and her friends need to come to the rescue.

While the writing has a lot to be desired I believe that this book is entertaining enough and at points had me so engrosed I didn't want to put the book down. If you would like a quick easy read then this is the book for you. I feel however that there is an event in the book which may not be suitable for younger readers, the event gets mentioned quite abit aswell.

This book is the first in the series called 'The House of Night' I believe there are going to be around 15 books altogether and while I am enjoying them I don't know whether I will be able to stick the books out until the end of the series.

Overall a great start to a series, it really does set up the story for the next few books, and gives a couple of hints as to what is in store for Zooey and her friends. I would totally recommend it to my friends.
